Theta Tau's Policy On Hazing

Hazing is a negative aspect of Greek Life that has much publicity recently. Hazing is defined as "Any action taken or situation created, intentionally, whether on or off fraternity premises, to produce mental or physical discomfort, embarrassment, harassment, or ridicule." Such activities may include, but are not limited to the following: use of alcohol, paddling in any form, creation of excessive fatigue, physical and psychological shocks, quests, treasure hunts, scavenger hunts, road trips or any other activities carried on outside or inside the confines of the chapter house, public wearing of apparel which is conspicuous and not in normally good taste, engaging in public stunts and buffoonery, morally degrading or humiliating games and activities, and any other activities which are not consistent with fraternal laws, rituals or policies or the laws and policies of the educational institution.

This is the official definition of hazing by the University at Buffalo. We, the members of Mu Gamma Chapter of Theta Tau, take pride in our commitment to the fraternity. We hope pledges will develop a strong commitment to the fraternity without the pressure of hazing. Everything done as a pledge is voluntary.

If one feels that they are being hazed, they have a number of people to discuss and remedy the situation. The Pledge Marshal is the first person one should address should a problem arise. The pledge's Big Brother and the Regent are the next people who should be addressed. Any member who is hazing is in violation of the university's and the fraternity's laws will be dealt with accordingly. Hazing pledges does not promote unity. We are here to enhance your college experience and not diminishe one's self-esteem.

If you have any questions, please feel free to discuss them with the Pledge Marshal or the Regent.
